Our three nieces are visiting today as it is August and here in Italy that means vacation month! That also means no school and lots of time for little kids to play. Our nieces are adorable little girls, but they can be so full of energy it’s difficult to keep up sometimes.
I had to work on a painting for a show today – I actually started over because I totally messed up in the outlining the first time around, so I will share that soon when the show is announced. In observing the kids a bit today, I decided to keep going on my little bird explorations in design. Children are so free to express themselves and certainly are not arrogant when they want to share and show off something they have created. No false acting or hiding of one’s true self, it’s truly amazing. It’s sad that when we grow up, we feel the need to hide a bit and become embarrassed and self conscious of ourselves. Certainly it’s a method of protecting oneself from utter disappointment and the emotional dangers of the world, but it’s still a bit sad. Like we’ve lost a bit of our freedom in full expression of ourselves. Whether that be dancing like you just don’t care, sharing work you are not sure of or just telling your honest opinion of something.

I think we should all be a bit more like kids sometimes, which brings me to the peacock illustration. Proudly adorning magnificent feathers and colors…the peacock reminds me that it’s okay to show off and just be yourself. Be proud of what you have and shake your tail feather! Perhaps we just need a reminder sometimes, so I hope this little printout can cheer you up and urge you on with whatever you are doing. Giving you that little push…shake your tail feather!
