Art Every Day Month 6

My acrylic painting experiments are still going, but I realized with my sleepy moon piece that too much water is a really bad thing! The paint did not bind well or perhaps I tried painting over before the previous layers were dry.  A giant pimple formed on the painting and now I have to figure out how to salvage the whole thing…eek! Instead of freaking out too much, I just decided to take a break from the acrylic paintings for a while.

I found an old stack of watercolor papers that I was supposed to doodle on, but coffee had spilled over them at one point.  The papers got soaked in one corner, stuck together and partially ripped in spots. A big mess, but I didn’t want to throw away the paper and it’s just been sitting there.  I suddenly had the idea to collage over the broken parts to salvage the whole series.  I’m thinking collaged hair accessories for these hairstyles and I will draw on these at some point as well. For now, I’m happy to be making some progress…

Since I had the watercolors out, I also worked on a little art piece for the Italy on Sunday challenge…to use your favorite stamp! I think my mind changes on this every so often, but currently it is my owlie stamp design that I had made professionally.  It’s so satisfying to see your own design made into a product that you can touch and admire.  Here’s my little musing that I consider my first mail art experimentation.

Now I am trying to catch up on some podcast listening, so doodling away. I am feeling really into the nautical theme now…

  2. I absolutely am over the moon in loooooove with your doodles! That whale! Lovely… oooooh, and thank you for turning me onto Italy on Sunday — fun! Can’t wait to see where your altered watercolor papers go, too — great idea for working with what’s on the page :)

Thank you! It’s funny how I say doodle, because it just sort of happens…although they end up being the start of most all projects!

  3. I, too, have been experimenting with acrylics. is it Golden that you are using? i saw a demo on it the other day talking about adding too much water and the acrylic can not bind to each other. enjoyed your doodle as well. I have a workbook here on doodling and gives one prompts for the doodles. interesting process

I’m actually using these acrylics I bought here in Italy that have italian names of various foods – pannocchia biscotto cioccolato! Ooo, prompts on doodling sounds fun. I remember seeing such books at the museum bookshops as well!

  4. I so understand the acrylic experiments! LOL I must check out “Italy” on Sundays! Love the whimsical feeling of your doodles!

Definitely learning some stuff the hard way…or even when I knew it would happen, I just had to experience it for myself…haha!

I’m completely and totally enjoying your pen and ink the most of all of your gorgeous work. The personality your pen puts onto the page is outstanding!

    Cheers!

It’s so great to hear from folks about my doodlings, because usually folks just consider doodling sort of silly little musings. However, I think I enjoy doodling so much because it comes naturally!

to get rid of your acrylic “pimple”, you can just wait for it to dry completely and then sand it down. you can then either incorporate that look into your painting or paint over it again!

    Hi Linda,

I love your mail art piece and your illustrations. Your whale is so cute and makes me happy! There’s definitely something about putting something away, taking a break from it and coming back to it with new eyes. I find it helpful but it also tugs at me to finish it too. That can be hard.

Thanks! Hopefully I can go back to things when I’m ready…hehe…it’s actually pretty easy to start something new…I always have trouble finishing!
