Happy Thursday to everyone! This week I’ve been busy with a lot of on-the-computer work, so really took the opportunity to get hands on today. Of course, my Spring cleaning attempts are still midway…this is part of my desk where I can’t find anything. Yup, my creative space is totally messy, but you can see more lovely creative spaces via kootoyoo.

Although I want to dive in and clean madly, I know it usually results in spreading everything around the room and not finishing! So I’m trying to do it one drawer at a time…one thing at a time, like paper! I confess that I am a paper hoarder, always thinking I’m going to do something cool with this particular special paper, but end up hoarding it forever because I can’t bare to cut it. Tsk tsk. I’m collecting up all my paper stacks and rolls and looking for a place that is in view, so I will be more drawn to making the cut! Along the way I’ve been finding a lot of paper scraps for the recycling bin. Some of the papers are nice and thick, even if not blank – so inspiration struck and I decided to make a scrappy journal. I gathered up old magazines, catalogues, packing materials, scrap watercolor paper, test prints and btw the latest issue of Somerset Studio has artists papers in it, too. Anything with a bit of thickness will do nicely for a mixed media art journal because you cover up with paint anyway.

In the end, my recycled scrappy journal actually turned out really cool looking! I’m happy with the results and feeling that using scrap materials provides more inspiration and is less intimidating to dig into. The super long cotton ribbon is there so I can keep changing the binding tightness if things get too thick. Now I can go paint this up and work on a stack of paintings I have in progress. I tend to forget about things because I’m already on to the next thing – eek!

Before I go offline, I also wanted to share my drawing a day on Flickr, little birdies with style! I added a beanie hat one today and hope to keep this up because it’s fun to create little characters that have such different personalities suggested by changing a few lines here or a hat there! Illustration is cool. Our family just got a birdhouse set up, so I’m currently very amused watching the birdies eat our bread crumbs. Okay, now I’m off…

Your desk looks like a place where lots of ideas are spinning around, sometimes there is order in the chaos! Good luck with your new & ongoing projects, you seem to have a lot of interesting things happening xo
I wish I could see that order to find things. I seem to always take over all table space…eek! Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.
Happy spring cleaning! and I love your wee beanie birdie!
Thanks so much!
Hey, the journal’s a cool idea! While you feel your desk is a little messy, I’m just envious of how big it is. I’m working from a tiny tiny space (comes with the small apartment).
Thanks, I really like the idea of just using anything and it makes creating more approachable too! You are right that I have a bigger than normal “desk!” It’s actually a door on top of those leg thingies!
I am a total paper hoarder too! I have bins of it! I’m finally finding a use for it and forcing myself to part with it for the Everyday Creative Kits I’ve been making. It makes me feel better that the paper is going onto another life with someone else. And I love your birdie drawings and the little bird story you shared on my blog!
I still have to figure out something for my patterned papers…there’s a lot of shops here in Italy with lots of cool patterns, so you get a roll. I suppose it’s for bookmaking, but they are so pretty I can’t cut into them. Oh and thanks for checking out my birdie drawings…I’m going to keep at it…funny how little simply things can be so amusing!
I love that your space is just as messy as mine! I have papers, books, bills, magazines, pens and other stuff all crowded around my computer waiting and waiting to be put away. I have a huge desk that I use for making a creating jewellery and it is exactly the same with supplies and stock and work in progress. The mess might actually help the creativity… or not
Hehe, we can be messy together! Yeah, somehow it just piles up without me knowing. I agree having stuff out helps to inspire, but I would like to organize so I can see everything but have them in their place too. Oh, the best of both worlds!
Wow, I love your space and absolutely love your journal. Ok, I woke up sick today so I’m way behind on posting and other stuff, sigh, but totally love your project
Thanks so much Micki! I hope you feel better soon and thanks for using my digital stamp girl…so happy and honored!
Hey Linda,
Your workspace reminded me of good old time whenever am being creative. That would be how messy it gets when creative wire is up and buzzing away…
I remembered I mentioned to my hubby that I wish to make my everyday to be my weekend, by doing what I love and enjoy. And guess what? Unforeseen circumstances came along..and am doing exactly what I once thought I couldn’t do. So be careful what you wish for
Thanks for stopping by my blog and the lovely comment too. Your encouragement is highly appreciated

Hi Irene – thanks for visiting my blog! I suppose you are right, being messy is necessary when working on stuff…ahha! I think my hubby is a bit sad I’m taking over his space in the room too, I currently have a very large desk, but not a dedicated studio area that I can personally take over, so I feel bad being so messy. And I have to say I hope all our dreams come true
Oh gosh…….i just love your journal! You have inspired me to do a journal with some junk mail i have been collecting……i might even make it into a project for local teens.
I love your space too………looks like it would be fun to create there!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Love, Violette xo
Thanks so much – you are right it would be a great project for teens or kids! I’ve really gotten into the mood of making journals, although I can’t really use them all…ahha! Thanks for stopping by and commenting, I really appreciate it.
