Happy Tuesday to everyone! Each week I will be sharing my art journaling pages and if you want, please join me in some fun doodling and free expression. I would love to see your work, just comment with a link I’ll check it out. So last week I started a new journal, working on the cover image. Now I am just starting to dig into the pages of this recycled catalogue, seeing what I can do with the paper. I found some solid paint markers for sale at my local art shop, 1 euro a piece – so bought my favorite colors and tested them out in my journal. I love the big blocks of color and thankfully it dried just like acrylic paint, no smearing or smudging. You can also see below that I decided to keep the Spring Summer 2010 text in this fashion catalogue, because it actually works for the journal dating too. Pretty sweet!
I worked with free collage today, not big plans or layouts in mind. Just cutting with my scissors. I made some simple circle flowers from some washi papers I had lying around, nice and easy but cool looking with all the patterns.
Just a smattering of flowers to go with a happy Springtime theme.
After glueing the papers down and flattening with some heavy books, I went in with a black marker to doodle in the stems. Then I started using my copics to add color and even a white gel pen for some highlights. Of course, I managed to smear some of the black with my hand as well as alcohol when I applied the yellow background. I’m not sure what I was trying to do with alcohol, just went with it despite the smearing.
In the end I have a very bright and happy springtime layout, a nice beginning to my new journal. How about you? Do Springtime and flowers inspire you to doodle away?

I love your journal pages. Just looking at them makes me smile.
I do love to draw and write. This morning while drinking some blueberry tea I got out my journal and used my watercolor pencils to create some bright springtime flowers. It was a great way to start the day.

Oh, I’ve been talking about doing journal pages for years but could not bring myself to do it. No for any other reasons, but the fact that I have a rather obsessive (addictive?!) personality. Once I got into something, I’ll go all the way til I’m exhausted. I can’t seem to multi-task in my creative ventures, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, you’re doing great. Keep it up. Will come back for more!
Thanks so much! Oh it’s interesting how the seasons are not the same everywhere…even though it’s Springtime here in Italy we get random thunderstorms as well – scary! I think an art journal doesn’t have to be fancy at all, just a place where you can have fun. I actually have many journals so that I always have different places to play in…while one dries I can work in another as well. I think it’s great you explore something to its fullest, love your drawings!

Oh Linda! Those pens…I have one white and one black…they are HEAVEN..but they won’t sell them at the art supply store anymore because the graffiti kids use them for vandalism..it is so great to know they come in luscious colors too. The page looks great…and I look forward to seeing what you do with your dip pen!

Ooo, so funny how those paint pens are super cheap in the clearance section of my local art store. I guess that means they aren’t stocking them anymore…boo! So I totally got ink all over with the dip pen practice, but will post in creative workspace post today what I did…eek!
