Journaling and Such…

Hello blog friends. I know, it’s been so long and since I’ve let myself not have a blogging schedule things have really flown by the wayside here. I also had to go through a surprise switching of my webhost last week, so that delayed my efforts even more. As if I need another thing to do! However, I am happy to be off the old hosting provider  - blegh! And while I was at it, decided to combine all my email into my Gmail account. It’s actually pretty darn nifty and now I can really work from anywhere and have all my files online…

Anyway, so in trying to get back into the swing of things I turned to my journal and participated with the latest crusade…to use wrapping paper and stuff we usually toss from the holidays. I grabbed at what I had lying around my desk and created a layout just for fun. Nothing particular to say besides Joy & Peace! I am so so happy for everything that I have and the love from my family and friends – even if times can get busy and crazy! I used a piece of wrapping paper for my background and a bold ribbon at the bottom to anchor the page. Then added the words and a shiny snowflake piece. The top of my journal page has holes in it, so I strung through some gold thread and tied it up…pretty simple and homey feeling for me. Maybe it’s the Saint Nicholas smiling back that gives off the good vibes :)

On the topic of Christmas, I don’t think I ever shared some of the drawings I created and started to watercolor. I really love the soft and fluid look of watercolors, but also the motion and surprises that can come from playing with the medium. However, I’m still such a beginner and learning a lot every single time I put brush to paper. As you tell, these drawings are from Christmastime – I’m still in catch up mode it seems. Can’t seem to get back up to speed and I’ll blame it on the holidays, but it’s nearly February – can you believe it! Anyway, I’m thinking I might be a bit braver now and can share more of my works on this blog, even if I’m such a novice or a bit shy about it. I think sharing the process seems to be the most interesting part about blogs besides learning concrete things through tutorials. Previously I’ve always been a bit hesitate to share randomness and work I’m a bit unsure of…the jitters you know. Hopefully it’s not jitters from too much coffee – LOL…

Until next time and thank you for subscribing and visiting my blog. It helps to push me along my creative journey…BTW, if you are interesting in art journaling, check out my A-Z series if you haven’t seen already – where I go through journaling words from A-Z day by day. Start here where I show the process of making the journal and decorating the cover. I’ve found that these days I’ve been shying away from all the paint and doing a lot of collage and scrapbooking style pages. I think sometimes I just don’t want to get dirty. I let myself do whatever I feel like – total freedom when it comes to journaling. It’s for myself after all!

I love watercolor, too. I think, besides the gorgeous look of it, I love that it’s a challenge to master. (I certainly haven’t mastered it yet!) I really like seeing sketches and wips, too, so I’m glad you’re sharing! :)

Agreed that it’s a challenge to master…you sort of have to learn the art of letting things be and controlling at the same time…very cool, but difficult as well! Thanks for stopping by and glad you like to see… that makes me feel better about sharing LOL

Hi Karen – thanks so much for stopping by. Oh I have heard of Danny Gregory and definitely inspired by those who can just sketch so beautifully…and it’s “just a sketch.” aha… Sometimes you just have to take the plunge though and go for it…and of course have fun along the way always!

Watercolor can be a lot of fun. I love the look of it over gesso and the way it flows and grabs when used with other mediums.

Very cool, I will definitely have to mix it with other mediums and play!
