I had the urge to create a little collage in my journal. Something different, instead of the usual black ink drawing. It’s a creative warm-up for me…

I started to think how helpful little creative exercises might be. Specially collage because using existing elements enables me to consider the page complete in a short sitting. I’m not fussing over creating everything from scratch – one of those crazy crutches I have. It’s just a mix of painted papers, tape, tags, paper bits… a little paint… just a little collage.
It’s going to be a long long weekend in Italy (perhaps Europe?) as May 1st is like labor day holiday here. I usually separate creative time from family home time, but thinking I need to create more fluidity in my life, instead of switching modes all the time. Maybe little creative exercises will help, I should be able to slip them in every day. Perhaps filling in those gaps that seem like wasted time?
Do you take your creative time into your daily life routine? What types of creative exercises do you do?

my creative time is usually spent sitting at a desk alone, either writing or doing art. I’m also thinking of mixing family time into this, when on vacation especially. Heading your way soon. Have a nice weekend! {:-Deb
Looks good Linda, yes just doing a bit and working thru stuff is good, gently untangling the week, or wherever we are, doing a bit of journalling myself tonight.. Enjoy your long weekend there, hopefully getting a bit warmer for you there!
Collage can be so wonderfully satisfying. For me it feels like I’m throwing out any rules about what makes a piece finished and just going as long as, or as quickly as, I like. And there’s something about it that’s great when it’s done, no matter how fast the finish came!
I just bought myself a “PLAY” journal tonight- a mixed media sketchbook that I can use to just mess around with color and paint and stamps and materials. I was torn about it for a while because I wanted to keep everything in my art journal, but then I realized I haven’t done any experimenting at all because it doesn’t seem to *flow* from the other pages. Argh. I hate these little weird obsessions I have about certain things being in the “right space”.
Thanks for all your input… I’m definitely finding a bit of collage very fun. And in the end, I realize that I should stop trying to categorize things as collage, or I’m going to paint now, or I’m going to draw now. It should just be whatever play I want… what a thought!
