The nice thing about living in Tuscany, Italy, is that a vacation is never far away. A day trip can you take you to old medieval castles, sandy beaches, and secret little towns tucked away in the hills. The month of August is vacation month in all of Italy and most places are closed for vacation (chiuso per ferie) – all the more reason to join the culture and take some time off.

This year we decided to take little trips here and there with our little Westie pup, Vash. We visited the beaches of Elba Island (first ferry boat ride for Vash)…

…old towns like Massa Marittima…

…Suvereto and¬†Castagneto Carducci… to name a few. The not so touristy smaller towns have more peace and quiet, amazing views and wonderful local food.

Taking a break not only re-energizes me, but uncovers new inspiration as well. I think it’s always a good day to take a vacation… no matter how mini it might be.¬†What have you been up to in the heat of August?
