This month I decided to watch the video interviews on CreativeLive by Chase Jarvis and get some daily inspiration, motivation and wisdom. I’ve decided to blog about the series, logging my thoughts and takeaways…

Day 11 creative genius – Kelly Starrett.

This is the first guest so far that I actually know nothing about. Completely new to me, Kelly is a mobility expert and coach. Basically, he’s all about maintaining one’s body – health and exercise. He likes to say, what does it mean to be human?

Pain and posture are correlated.

Jarvis mentions that sitting is the new smoking – a really bad, unhealthy habit. And it’s not just about going to the gym. It’s actually about how we live, all the non-exercise activity that burns more calories. We really just need to move and every little bit counts.

It really made me think about the Asian culture and how we tend to squat a lot and sit on the ground… and how that is a good thing. I look at my parents and how much more agile they are compared to many others their age, simply because of their lifestyle and choices in movement throughout life.

As with many things nowadays, we are realizing that crash course attempts to “better” some part of ourselves is not sustainable or the easiest way to tackle issues. Like crash diets, right? Nope. It’s got to be a lifestyle change. If you can work it into your lifestyle, then it’ll really make a difference. You will change your life.

This interview and the concepts introduced really changed the way I think about moving my body. It’s not that I have to devote hours and hours to going to the gym. I guess that is why the fitbit is so popular these days? What do you think?
