This month I decided to watch the video interviews on CreativeLive by Chase Jarvis and get some daily inspiration, motivation and wisdom. I’ve decided to blog about the series, logging my thoughts and takeaways…

Day 12 creative genius – Jared Leto.

Famous actor and musician, you’ve heard of Jared Leto, right? As with many of the folks in this interview series, Leto talks about the opportunity we have these days. The access and ability for all of us to do our own thing. There are no gatekeepers, like back in the day.

We live in a wonderful time.

Oh so true. It takes a bit of gratitude to see how much we really have today and to appreciate it, rather than focusing on the bad. There was also another big point that made me pause and rewind to listen again.

You don’t have to do things well in order for them to be worthy.

Leto is talking about how the reward for doing something can be that it’s fun or anything else. You don’t have to be the best, necessarily. It’s like exploring the jack of all trades idea and really understanding it a bit more, rather than the blanket statement of doing too much or spreading yourself too thin.

It makes sense to dig in a bit deeper… to consider everything you do and what it brings you. What it does for you. Interesting and food for thought, for sure. And for a final takeaway thought, Leto said:

I succeed a little bit because I fail a lot. That’s a fact.

More wisdom for any creative who struggles with failure. I understand that we need to create a lot and curate. People only see the success, but often don’t notice all the work that goes around it. Quantity leads to quality, don’t you think?
